Our Story
Step into Provincial Bar, and you’ll find yourself transported to a bygone era. Our bar has a rich history that dates back to the 1870s. Provincial Hotel has stood the test of time, having been rebuilt in the early 1900s after the original structure was unsafe.
Unfortunately, it fell victim to the aftermath of the 1931 earthquake and burned to the ground. However, the Provincial Hotel rose from the ashes and reopened its doors on New Year’s Eve in 1932, marking a new chapter in its history.
Today, the Provincial Bar is a beloved institution in Napier, with a fascinating story to tell. In 2023, we reopened the doors to welcome guests back to this beloved building. We’ve created an experience that captures the essence of the Art Deco era. Our interior design is awash with art deco influences, and every detail has been carefully curated to transport you to the glamorous bars of 1930’s New York City.
Our cocktail list is inspired by Napier’s Art Deco history, featuring drinks that pay homage to the past while incorporating modern twists. The menu is a celebration of the decadence of the era, with dishes that would make even Gatsby himself envious. Come and soak up the history, relax, and enjoy a trip back in time.
